International Blues Challenge 2023 Semifinalist
Matt subsequently became the youngest artist ever invited to perform at a Woodstock Festival, taking the stage for Woodstock '99 alongside brother Adam (guitar) at the age of 10. Through his teen years and young adulthood, Lomeo never stopped performing, following his muse to New York City and later Memphis, TN, where he held court at Beale Street's World-Famous Club Handy. The Memphis years were an essential influence on his musical style, equally indebted to Malaco-era Johnnie Taylor and Classic Motown as well as traditional Blues, Country, and Rock N’ Roll.
In the spring of 2018 Matt relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where he hosts the Tuesday night jam at Ireland's 32 Pub, frequented by some of the most highly-decorated musicians in Southern California. Matt's truest voice has emerged through his songwriting. His first all-original album When You Call, produced by Grammy-nominee Terry Wilson, was released to international acclaim and radio play in June 2022. Matt Lomeo and band represented the Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge 2023 in Memphis, TN, reaching semifinals. In October 2024, Matt returned to the Bluff City once again, this time for the distinct honor of opening for Soul Blues Harmonica legend Bobby Rush at The Rockin’ Chair of Memphis.
Beginning in spring 2023, Lomeo has served as an adjunct instructor at the Los Angeles College of Music, teaching Blues and Roots vocal styles. In addition to his educational duties, hosting the jam, and a burgeoning career as a solo artist, Matt is a full member of several other groups. His harmonica and vocals can be heard on Angela Petrilli & The Players’ debut EP, The Voices (2023) and Live at Norman’s Rare Guitars (2024). In April 2023, “Ghost Inside a Frame” from the former was featured in Rolling Stone’s “Songs You Need to Know.” He also performs regularly with Matt Bunsen & The Burners, contributing vocals to the 2023 release I Am Consumed. In Tony Suraci’s “The Highwayman Show”, Matt enjoys the privilege of furthering a rich Country harmonica tradition developed by such greats as Mickey Raphael and Charlie McCoy at some of the most historic venues in the Southwest. Yet another new project is Luca Neroni & The Roosters Feat. Matt Lomeo, a traditional electric Blues outfit in the Chicago and Texas styles started in 2024.
